Jazz (all age groups) – Showcases a dancer's individual style and originality. This type of dance is high energy, fun, and consist of unique, exaggerated moves, fancy footwork, huge leaps, and turns.

Level I - Terminology and technique are introduced with simple choreography.

Level II – Terminology and technique are mastered. Slightly more complicated choreography is provided.

Dancers will learn a combination of Ballet, Modern, and Jazz. Ballet is a theatrical dance in which a formal academic technique is combined with music, poetry, costume, and scenery. Ballet is highly disciplined stage art, based on centuries-old tradition of movement. It is also the foundation of many other forms of dance, such as Hip Hop and Jazz. Ballet instills poise, grace, body carriage and flexibility.

Modern is related to ballet, but aims at different types of performance, instead of the classical ballet. Modern dancers prefer a more relaxed and free style of dancing. While ballerinas try to be light on their feet, modern dancers use body weight to increase movement.

Jazz showcases a dancer's individual style and originality. This type of dance is high energy, fun, and consist of unique, exaggerated moves, fancy footwork, huge leaps, and turns.


ATTIRE:
Form fitting clothes such as leotards, tank tops, camis over leggings, jazz pants, skorts, or boy-cut shorts (worn over tights). If loose fitting tops are worn, a leotard or tucked in cami/tank top MUST BE WORN UNDERNEATH (no midriffs are to be shown). Must wear Jazz or Ballet slippers. Jazz shoes can be split soles, slip-on or lace up. Can be barefoot. ABSOLUTELY NO SOCKS (can be hazardous to dancer). Hair up and away from face in a bun, braid, or pony tail.

Originating from Break Dancing of the 1980’s, Hip Hop is an extremely energetic form of dancing. It is unique in that it allows its dancers to perform with freedom of movement, adding in their own personalities, with very fast arm, leg, body, and head movements.

Fundamentals of Technique -- THURS/6-715PM with Melinda Kasal-Canty

This class introduces basic technique in Modern (concepts of Ballet and Jazz are also covered). It also provides development in body awareness, alignment, and use of breath to body movement. Improvisation will also be explored.

Modern is related to ballet, but aims at different types of performance, instead of the classical ballet. Modern dancers prefer a more relaxed and free style of dancing. While ballerinas try to be light on their feet, modern dancers use body weight to increase movement.

This class is for those 11-6 yr olds who are in levels I and II. For those who are more in the Level II, several sessions in this level (and possibly some Turns, Leaps, Jumps, & Kicks classes) can then move up to the 11-16 Jazz III class.

Jazz (all age groups)– Showcases a dancer's individual style and originality. This type of dance is high energy, fun, and consist of unique, exaggerated moves, fancy footwork, huge leaps, and turns.

Level I – Basic terminology, technique, and concepts are introduced. Some choreography is introduced.

Level II – Terminology and technique are mastered. Slightly more complicated choreography is provided.

Level III -- More complicated turn, leap, jump sequences are introduced and mastered. Choreography are quicker and faster.
